Police have charged a man with stealing roof vents, window screens and other metals from a Westport elementary school, located across the street from the man's house.
Bradford Desrosier, 37, of Westport, was charged with larceny over $250 and defacing property.
Police were called to Alice A. Macomber School on Gifford Road on Sunday after maintenance workers noticed items missing from the school.
Officers observed sets of footprints left by at least two suspects. A short while later police noticed some of the stolen vents in a front yard at a house on Gifford Road.
Investigators spoke with Desrosier and found additional stolen items inside his house.
Police said the man had stolen the items to fuel his own drug habit. He told police he had planned to sell the items at a local scrap yard.
Police said a woman will also be charged in the thefts.
