A giant Westport linden tree may be getting a reprieve.
Sidewalks are planned for Main Road and the Central Village Public Improvements Committee originally decided to have the tree removed.
After public outcry, the Standard Times reports the members voted this week to have the sidewalks built around the tree.
The plan still needs to be approved by the Board of Selectmen.
