The Town of Westport was fined earlier this year for not filing an environmental report.
As a compromise, the town has agreed to pay part of the fine, originally set for $6,000, and also buy rain barrels.
According to The Herald News, 60 barrels will be purchased for residents to collect rainwater to help prevent contaminants from getting into the Westport River.
