The company found responsible for the three-day ban on drinking tap water in Somerset last spring has been fined nearly $19,000 by the state.
The Herald News reports that the state Department of Environmental Protection says Hydrograss Technologies, a subcontractor for the Veterans Memorial Bridge project, caused the contamination scare on May 31, when workers connected to a fire hydrant without the town's permission.
An unknown amount of hydro-seed material entered the water system.
Officials told residents and businesses not to use the water for drinking, washing dishes or preparing food for roughly three days while crews flushed more than a million gallons of water out the system. No one reported getting sick.
Three workers involved in the incident have been charged, but not arrested.
