A top administrator at the state Training School is accused of abusing his 14-year-old son.
Cranston police arrested 38-year-old William Barnette last week and charged him with second-degree child abuse.
Barnette is the deputy administrator at the Training School.
Police said the alleged victim, Barnette's 14-year-old son, is not living with his father, nor was the boy in the Training School.
In 2011, Barnette was suspended for two weeks from running the Scared Straight program for "traumatizing" an 8-year-old he placed in the program.
The Scared Straight program at the Training School was criticized at the time for exposing the program to children who were too young.
The Department of Children, Youth and Families said Barnette was put on paid administrative leave.
Cranston police said Barnette was arraigned last week and released on $10,000 personal recognizance.
He has another court appearance in late March.
