The body of former Rhode Island Gov. J. Joseph Garrahy will lie in repose at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the cathedral. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence said the Rev. Marcel Taillon will preside at the Mass. Taillon is the pastor at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Narragansett.

NBC 10 and turnto10.com will carry the funeral beginning at 10 a.m.

Garrahy died Tuesday night in a hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he was spending the winter, according to his daughter-in-law Barbara Cottam Garrahy. He had heart disease.

He will be remembered by many in the state for the flannel shirt he wore while leading the state through the blizzard of 1978. He was 81.

Garrahy will be buried at St. Francis Cemetery in South Kingstown.
