Former U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy has started his new stint as a teacher.
Kennedy is part of a team teaching a seminar at Brown University that began Monday. The university said the seminar will examine lessons learned from government efforts to combat disease and apply them to improving mental health and brain research. Enrollment is limited to 24 students.
Kennedy is a visiting fellow at the Brown Institute for Brain Science. The other instructors are Judy Bentkover an adjunct professor at Brown's Alpert Medical School and R. John Davenport, the associate director of the Brown Institute for Brain Science.
Kennedy did not seek re-election and left Congress in January 2011 after eight terms representing Rhode Island. He and neuroscientists have launched an initiative to improve funding and unify research efforts in brain science.
