An assistant coach for the Chariho High School soccer team, who is also employed at the state prison, is accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to a boy.
Glen Matteson, 51, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of indecent solicitation of a child and child pornography. He was released on bail.
Police said a Richmond man told them on Sunday that his son received inappropriate text messages from Matteson. Police said Matteson and the boy knew each other.
Police posed as the boy and used the phone to exchange text messages with Matteson to learn his intent. They said Matteson sent messages indicating he wanted to have sex with the boy.
"Told U I was kinky ... In fact send me a pic of U in the shower," one of the texts said, according to a police report.
Police said anyone else who may have concerns that Matteson acted inappropriately should contact their local police department or state police.
"It's a parent's worst nightmare. It really is. To entrust your children with teachers or coaches or anyone else for any period of time, for any legimate reason, and then have that relationship somehow abused. It is a parent's worst nightmare," Richmond Police Chief Elwood Johnson said.
Chariho school superintendent Barry Ricci said Matteson won't be returning to school and that he was hired as an assistant coach for the 2011-2012 season only.
Ricci said Matteson had a background check when he was hired.
The state Department of Corrections said Matteson is a security apecialist at the Adult Correctional Institutions, where he is in charge of the women's facility.
Matteson was placed on administrative leave from his ACI post with pay pending a hearing.
