State lawmakers have introduced a bill calling for a statewide vote on whether the Newport Grand slot parlor should be allowed to become a full-scale casino.
The Providence Journal reported that state Rep. J. Russell Jackson and other Newport County lawmakers submitted the legislation in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Legislators have already signed off on a plan to hold a referendum next November on turning the Twin River slot parlor in Lincoln into a casino.
The Newport Grand's plans to add table games comes as gambling centers in the region face potential competition from proposed casinos in Massachusetts.
