The North Attleborough Fire Department received several 911 calls at about 11 a.m. Saturday for reports of an explosion at a trailer at Wamsutta Village.
Neighbors said they couldn't believe what they were seeing and had heard.
"There were red flames coming out of the ceiling and everything, it was scary," said Marcia Vassar.
Homeowner Mike Condon tried to salvage what he could from the burnt out shell of his home.
"My 20-pound beagle that I had cremated last week, that's what I salvaged," he said.
Condon also said he was able to salvage his heart medication. He had been getting a cup of coffee at McDonald's when the fire broke out.
Fire departments from three different communities responded.
"Initial calls indicated an explosion at this trailer behind me," said Chief Peter Lamb.
He said investigators are trying to determine whether an explosion caused the fire, or the fire caused an explosion.
"It could be a fire building and blowing out windows … it's way too early in the investigation to tell," Lamb said.
Crews from the gas company were also on scene to help investigate.
Lamb said crews had the fire knocked down quickly, but he said it only takes a short time to destroy a home like a trailer.
"These lightweight manufactured homes burn very quickly. They're very light weight materials, and fire travels very quickly in them," he said.
