Police: Man says killing was murder for hire

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Pawtucket police say a man indicted on a murder charge this week in the killing of an elderly woman is claiming it was a murder for hire.

Police told The Providence Journal that Robert Lamoureux Jr. told detectives he was paid to kill 83-year-old Pauline Buco, but he didn't disclose who paid him.

Police are looking into the claim. The motive remains unclear.

Buco's two granddaughters found her dead in her bed at her Pawtucket home in November 2010. Authorities said she was beaten and strangled.

A Providence County grand jury indicted Lamoureux on a murder charge Tuesday. He's been detained without bail since his arrest last August.

Lamoureux previously served prison time for another killing. He was convicted of stabbing a young Pawtucket woman to death in 1982.
