Newport police said Thursday that a 68-year-old woman who was reported missing was found dead.
Police said they found the body of Brenda Batts at about 1 p.m. near the Vanzandt Avenue Bridge. Her body was identified by relatives.
The cause of the woman's death has not been determined, but police said there were no obvious signs of foul play.
Police issued a Silver Alert for Batts on Thursday morning. They were concerned for her safety because she had dementia.
