New Bedford's mayor says the school committee needs to get serious about the crisis facing the city's public schools.
The state is threatening to take over the New Bedford public schools. And the state education department wants a turn-around plan from the school district, but has already rejected three previous plans.
Mayor Jon Mitchell repeatedly pressed the superintendent at a meeting Monday night. The superintendent claims the schools are making progress, significantly changing the way they do things in some areas.
The school district has until April 2 to come up with a new plan.
