The University of Rhode Island said an assistant professor of chemical engineering was killed when his car struck a cement truck.
State police said Peng Wang, 36, of Hartford, Conn., was driving on Route 138 east Monday morning when his car veered into the path of the oncoming truck.
Wang was killed.
"Dr. Wang represented the best of the University ... He was not only a pioneer in his research, but he was a pioneer in bringing together the disciplines of engineering and pharmaceutical research," the university said in a statement.
The cement truck driver was treated at a hospital and released.
