Providence swears in new police chief

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Hugh Clements Jr. is sworn in as Providence's police chief.

The 54-year-old Clements was elevated to the position of chief Friday evening during a swearing-in ceremony at City Hall.

Clements was named to the top position last month. He's been serving as acting chief since Col. Dean Esserman resigned in June after underage drinking took place at his daughter's graduation party. Esserman is now the chief of the New Haven, Conn., police.

Clements has served on the city's force for 26 years, rising from the rank of patrolman.
