For NBC 10 News, "The Team You Trust" is not a slogan. It is a promise. It is a commitment to Southern New Englanders that you can trust us to provide the most accurate and thorough coverage of the issues and events that impact our community. It is our standard to do this with integrity and transparency at all times. When we fall short of this goal, it is important that we take appropriate action, learn from our mistakes and be open and honest with our audience.
On the evening of October 10, 2011, NBC 10 News posted a story on www.turnto10.com about the Providence Community Action Program's Wheels for Meals program. The next morning, we noticed that the article was nearly identical to a story posted on the Providence Journal's online blog the week before. We immediately removed the story from our web site and began an inquiry. We have concluded our investigation and taken appropriate action.
NBC 10 and its parent company, Media General, have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to plagiarism. This policy is one of the pillars of our profession. Accuracy and trustworthiness create the very foundation from which that profession is perched. We regret the transgression and we apologize to our audience, and to our colleagues at the Providence Journal.
