The former chief of staff to Providence's last mayor has been named to the board of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority.

Deborah Brayton will serve a four-year term on the board of the quasi-public agency, which oversees the Mount Hope Bridge between Bristol and Portsmouth and the Claiborne Pell Bridge between Newport and Jamestown.

Brayton served as chief of staff to former Providence Mayor David Cicilline, who has since been elected to Congress. She also served as legislative director for then U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee, who is now Rhode Island's governor.

She has also worked as executive director of Amos House, a shelter and social services agency that serves the homeless.
