Some Rhode Island residents are growing desperate three days after Tropical Storm Irene knocked out power across the state.
Red Cross volunteers handed out food and water Tuesday to more than 500 people in Glocester. The Red Cross returned Wednesday with more supplies for the many residents of northwest Rhode Island still without electricity or water.
"We've been seeing a lot of clients. They are very positive," Ed Blanchard of the Red Cross told NBC 10. "We're all here to help them. They appreciate what we're doing and we appreciate them."
Other Red Cross shelters were set up in Charlestown, Warwick and Coventry.
Officials in Exeter opened the Exeter-West Greenwich High School locker rooms to residents looking to take a shower.
The YMCA in Cranston also opened its doors 10 a.m. to noon and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the rest of the week for anyone looking to bathe.
"If there's a need, we hope everybody comes," Mike Norklun of the Cranston YMCA told NBC 10. "Hopefully there's not that big a need and people are finding ways to get along. But if there's a need, we hope plenty of people take advantage of it."
