A group of University of Rhode Island students are staging a protest over allegations their concerns about harassment and discrimination are not being addressed.

Members of the Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual and Transgender Center are holding a sit-in at the campus library.

The group is unhappy with ongoing negotiations with URI officials over budget, campus climate, and other issues.

The protest began at midnight Wednesday with about a dozen students.

URI Provost Donald DeHayes said the school is sensitive to the issues and the vulnerability of GLBT students.

At least one student said he's seen no progress in a year.
