Newport city officials and volunteers are working together to stop graffiti.
Officicals say certain areas seemed to be targeted for what's called, "tagging." Those areas include just under the newly renovated Van Zandt Bridge and at nearby Hunter Park.
A cleanup job that has to be done every few weeks, which takes city resources says officials, so, a mural has been proposed in an effort to stop the graffiti. Artists will be invited to paint the mural in hopes of stopping scattered graffiti along public places.
Called Project Mural, the actual painting is expected to begin in the spring.
