In Fall River, the main post office will be renamed to honor a fallen soldier.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation this week that will name the post office in memory of Army National Guard Sergeant Robert Barrett, who was 20 years old when he was killed in action in Afghanistan in April of this year.
Sergeant Barrett was a native of Fall River and a graduate of Durfee High School.
The legislation honoring Sergeant Barrett was introduced in the House by Congressman Barney Frank and cosponsored by Congressman Jim McGovern and other members of the Massachusetts delegation.
A similar bill is sponsored, and awaiting action in the U.S. Senate.
