A homeowner said Friday that some tenants he evicted from a property in Providence left their animals behind.

Landlord Jose DeJesus told NBC 10 that the renters did not have his consent to have pets.

Constable Onasis Martinez, who served the eviction notice, found the animals. He said there were two rabbits, three ferrets and four dogs.

Martinez said he called shelters in the area, but they didn't have any room for the abandoned pets.

"It's already upsetting just me evicting the people -- doing my job. But seeing the animals, the poor animals, and then not getting any help," Martinez said.

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been contacted.
