City property finds new role as produce farm

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The city-owned Barton Farm, on Centerville Road, provided thousands of pounds of produce for needy families this past season.

WestBay Community Action planted just a few acres this past summer, and harvested more than 8,000 pounds of tomatoes, carrots, spinach and other vegetables, according to the Warwick Beacon.

In fact, WestBay wants to farm more acres next year, but city councilors said they want to take a look at the cost of water for irrigation, first.
