EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A third Democrat has jumped into the race to succeed Patrick Kennedy in Congress.
State Rep. David Segal on Wednesday says he's running because Rhode Islanders need someone to stand up for working families in Washington.
The 30-year-old Providence resident enters a field that includes Providence Mayor David Cicilline and former Democratic Party Chairman Bill Lynch.
Segal has been in the House since 2006 and before that was a Green Party member of the Providence City Council.
Segal is a part-time paralegal and a graduate of Columbia University.
Wendy Schiller, a political scientist at Brown University, says Segal is not a favorite to win, but may be trying to lay the groundwork for a future run for office.
