CRANSTON -- A Cranston man is facing charges connected to the theft of about a dozen manhole covers that have disappeared from city streets over the past couple of days.

Authorities said Ryan Yeadon, 32, was arrested Tuesday at a metal recycling facility in Johnston with eight manhole covers in the back of his pickup truck and charged with receiving stolen goods worth more than $500.

He was ordered held without bail for violating conditions of his release on a previous offense.

It could not immediately be determined if he had a lawyer.

Police say 10 to 14 manhole covers were lifted from Cranston streets. They cost as much as $350 to replace.

Cranston residents say they are concerned that a person could fall into an uncovered manhole.
