BRISTOL, R.I. -- Inspectors have found more deficiencies at the troubled Rhode Island Veterans Home.
An unannounced inspection by the state Health Department last month found poor attention to the medical needs of two residents and an insufficient level of activities for others.
The Providence Journal reported that a resident who complained of possibly ill-fitting dentures waited longer than three months to see a dentist. Another resident waited longer than policy dictates for treatment of constipation.
Inspectors also found some residents with dementia were not being the proper amount of therapeutic activities.
A 2008 study of the home found cronyism, inappropriate use of restricted funds, "hostile" treatment of families and "dysfunctional" policies. In response, a new administrator was named.
