Mollis looks to streamline new businesses process

PROVIDENCE -- Rhode Island Secretary of State Ralph Mollis is pushing a plan to consolidate all the forms for starting a business on a new Web site.

Mollis wants to create a quick-start program to make the process easier by establishing an online master application, with one-time entry instead of filling out the same information dozens of times.

Currently, Mollis said there are more than 300 forms to fill out.

Mollis said he will work with state agencies to reduce forms required by small business.

He also promises to organize existing forms in an online library.

"Our goal is to make Rhode Island more business friendly," Mollis said.

Bob Bacon, the new owner of Gregg's Restaurants, said the online form could have saved some trouble when he was going through the purchase of the restaurant chain.

The plan, which Mollis said will cost about $250,000, is endorsed by both Democrat and Republican political leaders.
