PROVIDENCE -- A longtime friend and mentor to U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy is being honored by Rhode Island lawmakers as he retires from his job as a State House doorman.
Frank DiPaolo Jr., who is 103 years old, met Kennedy when he first ran for the state's General Assembly in 1988.
They became friends, and Kennedy mentioned DiPaolo by name when he announced in a video statement in February that he would not seek a ninth term in Congress.
DiPaolo is a doorman at the House chamber, keeping unwelcome guests off the floor.
He was honored by House lawmakers on Wednesday afternoon and presented with a resolution.
