The city of Warwick hosted an open house this weekend. The Sunday open house was on the property that once housed Rocky Point park.
The city now owns part of the property and the future may hold for the former amusement park site.
Residents got a first hand look along the shore., with an eye to what could be. Included in next year's budget is a $10 million bond for the state to purchase 83 acres of land at Rocky Point which is currently in the hands of the Small Business Administration. The plan would preserve the land as open space.
But the bond issue won't be decided until the November election and even supporters of turning the space into a public park concede, things can happen between now and then.
Development is always a concern supporters say, because anyone could always outbid whatever we are looking to pay for the property so it's a concern, but we'll deal with that.
The mayor and others say they will stay the course and take it, as they have been, one step at a time.
