NEW YORK -- Police have questioned a woman believed to own a car involved in a New York City hit-and-run that left a Brown University graduate gravely injured.
Police said investigators spoke to 31-year-old Cindy Jasmin at her attorney's office Tuesday. She has not been arrested in the hit-and-run that left Erinn Phelan in critical condition.
But police have sought to question Jasmin because she is the registered owner of the car that struck Phelan and Alma Guerrero as they crossed a Brooklyn street early Sunday. Guerrero was in stable condition. Guerrero and Phelan were roommates at Brown.
Phelan promotes volunteerism through an agency called NYC Service.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Monday called Phelan a "fighter" with "a big heart."
Police said Jasmin had a previous arrest on a charge of driving with a suspended license.
