PROVIDENCE -- Police said they are searching for a woman believed to own a car involved in a hit-and-run that left a Brown University graduate who works for New York City gravely injured.
Police said they are looking to question 31-year-old Cindy Jasmin. They said she is the registered owner of the car that struck Erinn Phelan and a friend as they crossed a Brooklyn street early Sunday.
They said Jasmin had been previously arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license.
Phelan promotes volunteerism through an agency called NYC Service. The 22-year-old is a native of suburban Boston.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Monday called Phelan a "fighter" with "a big heart."
The friend, Alma Guerrero, was in stable condition. She's a medical student at Brown University.
The women were roommates at Brown.
