LEDYARD, Conn. -- Postal Service officials said a post office in Ledyard will be closed for at least several days because its roof collapsed during heavy rains.
Officials said no one was injured and no mail was damaged when the roof at the Gales Ferry post office caved in Wednesday afternoon.
Postal Service spokeswoman Maureen Marion said workers noticed some leaking last weekend and that Wednesday's heavy rains caused the roof to fail. She said the post office is a "big, big mess."
Officials said people who have one of 350 post office boxes at Gales Ferry can get their mail at the Ledyard branch.
