New party approaches Corrente about run for governor

»  Comments | Post a Comment

PROVIDENCE -- A newly formed political party says it has met with former U.S. Attorney Robert Clark Corrente regarding a possible run for Rhode Island governor.

Christine Hunsinger, the executive director of the Moderate Party, said Thursday's meeting was one of several the party has had with potential candidates. Corrente did not return a call seeking comment.

Hunsinger said party representatives met with Corrente over coffee and doughnuts to discuss the party and to gauge Corrente's level of interest.

She said ethics is one of the central planks of the party's platform, and that Corrente - who as U.S. attorney led a federal investigation into Statehouse corruption - would be a strong candidate in that area.
