PROVIDENCE -- This month marks the second anniversary of a local newspaper with a unique voice.
It focuses on issues of homelessness from the perspective of those who have experienced it first hand.
From a tent city in Providence, to the foreclosure crisis, if it's a topic that relates to the issues of housing and homelessness, chances are you'll read about it in a newspaper called Street Sights. Most of the staff and contributing writers are people who are or have been homeless.
Street sights is an opportunity for people to express themselves, write about their experiences in shelters and programs, and to advocate for change.
The paper is distributed mainly to shelters and soup kitchens, but it's also in some public places where anyone can have access to the publication.
From convenience stores to coffee shops, the paper is in places where the general public can pick it up. This month, the March issue is the special second anniversary edition.
The newspaper is distributed free. Financially, Street Sights relies on people and organizations who sponsor it and are willing to subscribe to it.
