CRANSTON, R.I. -- The long-awaited Park Cinema project in Cranston is getting ready to open and the entertainment complex is looking to hire people for its martini lounge, theatre and comedy club.
The complex held a job fair on Tuesday. It's looking to fill 40 positions.
"We're looking for bartenders, wait staff, security, kitchen help, as well as cleaning staff," said Leo Tahajian, general manager.
After about two hours, more than 100 people walked through the door looking for work.
"Times are a little bit on the leaner side, although a lot of people are saying they have multiple jobs they just need that little extra to get by," Tahajian said.
"I need another job because times are tough," said Jack Oscarson, of Cranston. "We're in between houses, living with in-laws. So, we're trying to find a second job so we can find a permanent home for our family."
Even though the applicants out number the openings by a wide margin, people like Tina Scolaro are optimistic.
"I'm just on a mission to seek work," she said. "You have to be a go-getter and not give up."
The job fair continues Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
