EAST GREENWICH, R.I. -- Human remains found next to Interstate 95 in East Greenwich have been identified as those of a Rhode Island woman who was reported missing three-and-a-half years ago.

The Rhode Island State Police said Tuesday the remains belong to Kerrie Pelletier, formerly of Providence. The remains were found last Wednesday by an inmate cleaning up litter alongside the highway.

Two acquaintances reported Pelletier missing in June 2006.

State Police Capt. David Neill says her death and the circumstances of her disappearance remain under investigation.
