Boat owners report break-ins

CRANSTON, R.I. -- Dozens of boat owners in Rhode Island said they've been hit by thieves.

Police said break-ins have been reported at marinas in the Apponaug area of Warwick and the Edgewood area of Cranston.

Investigators said fishing gear was stolen in almost every case.

Fred Jarosz said he had several fishing poles stolen. Two of them were antiques that he said will be hard to replace. He said the stolen items were worth about $800.

Rods, reels and electronics have been reported stolen by other boat owners.

The president of the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association said that about 30 of the group's members have been hit over the past few days.

Officials said fewer people are around marinas at this time of year and that crimes are more likely to occur.
