Rhode Island has awarded a two-year contract to a behavioral health care provider to offer inpatient psychiatric and medical detox services to poor people.
Officials say The Providence Center will start its work under the contract beginning on Jan. 1.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals says patients must meet income requirements and have no access to Medicaid or other forms of insurance to qualify for care under the contract.
The Providence Center plans to connect patients with inpatient psychiatric care and medical detox services through an existing program that it runs statewide.
