A Rhode Island cable company has been recognized for its efforts to be environmentally friendly.

Full Channel, which serves the East Bay, received the 2009 Independent Community Service Award from CableFAX.

CableFAX, an industry group, cited the company's use of wind energy to power its headquarters. Full Channel's GreenLink program lets subscribers pay $1 a month to have their cable, phone and Internet services delivered with wind power.

Full Channel also instituted a battery recycling program.
