Red Sox make offers to Varitek, Teixeira

LAS VEGAS—Sports agent Scott Boras says the Boston Red Sox have made a contract offer to retain free-agent catcher Jason Varitek.
Boras also told reporters who swarmed him at baseball’s winter meetings in Las Vegas on Wednesday that a hotter free agent among his clients—first baseman Mark Teixeira—has received offers from “numerous” teams.
Teixeira is thought to be drawing interest from the Red Sox, Angels, Nationals, Orioles and Yankees.
