FORT MYERS, Fla. – Brad Penny gave up two runs in four innings Saturday and the Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 9-4.
Penny allowed four hits in his second exhibition start. He threw 68 pitches, 46 for strikes.
Penny remains in competition for the fifth spot in the Red Sox rotation. He’s been brought along slowly this spring after struggling with arm and shoulder problems last year with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Twins starter Francisco Liriano was roughed up, giving up home runs to Rocco Baldelli, David Ortiz and Jason Bay in the third inning.
