FOXBOROUGH, Mass.—Coach Bill Belichick plans to take time off after an unusually early end to the New England Patriots’ season.

His staff and players will have more free time than usual after the Patriots missed the playoffs despite finishing 11-5.

Belichick said Monday he hasn’t made any decisions about next year and that he hasn’t addressed the quarterback position.

Tom Brady is rehabilitating from a knee injury that ended his season in the first game. His replacement, Matt Cassel, can become a free agent if the Patriots don’t apply the franchise tag to him.

The Cleveland Browns reportedly have asked to interview vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli. Belichick said he wouldn’t comment on another person’s situation.
