Funeral scheduled Monday for UConn player

STORRS, Conn.—Funeral services for a University of Connecticut football player fatally stabbed last weekend have been scheduled for Monday in his hometown of Miami.

The funeral for 20-year-old Jasper Howard will be at 11 a.m. Monday at New Birth Baptist Church in Miami. A viewing will be the previous day at Richardson Mortuary.

Howard was stabbed outside a university-sanctioned dance early Sunday hours after helping the Huskies to a homecoming game win over Big East foe Louisville.

Nobody has been charged with Howard’s stabbing. Police say they have made “significant progress” in the investigation, but are still seeking photos and videos of the crime scene from the public.

The funeral was scheduled Monday to allow Howard’s teammates to attend.
