The Edgewood Eagles celebrated a Division II Pop Warner Super Bowl championship in Orlando on Friday, but the team was almost sacked by the league’s review board.
On Thursday, the Eagles were evicted from their hotel room after a fight with members of the Dorchester Eagles, who allegedly assaulted parents and players from Cranston.
According to the Pop Warner Code of Conduct, if a team is evicted from its hotel, the team can’t compete in the Super Bowl.
After a hearing, the Pop Warner Review Board granted Edgewood a one-day waiver to stay off the property, which allowed the team to play in Friday’s championship game.
The review board revoked Dorchester’s event credentials.
Edgewood defeated the Goulds Rams (Fla.) 36-8.
