WASHINGTON—Boston Celtics owner Steve Pagliuca and guard Ray Allen attended the inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington.

Pagliuca told the Associated Press that he was proud to represent a Celtics team that was the first in the NBA to draft a black player and to hire a black coach.

The team itself voted to change its flight schedule to Miami for Wednesday night’s game against the Heat, so the players could arrive in time to watch the inauguration ceremony from their hotel.

Coach Doc Rivers says the players wanted to make sure they saw it live while it happened, rather than on tape.
