BOSTON - About 7,500 rowers from around the world have gathered for the 45th Head of the Charles Regatta.
The regatta is billed as the world’s largest two-day rowing event. It will feature 45 races on the Charles River on Saturday and Sunday.
The event has attracted up to 300,000 spectators in the past.
This year, the crowds and athletes will have to deal with cloudy, cool temperatures and the threat of rain both days.
Spectators are strongly advised to take public transportation.
The first Head of the Charles was held in 1965 and it grew to a two-day event in 1997.
