Gone Country Makes Me Go Nuts

Kim Reis

Today I realized that my TiVo is filling up - and quick!  We’ve been so busy with track practice, indoor softball, babysitting nephews, cleaning up snow, cleaning up the house and all of the things in between, that I just realized I haven’t watched a reality TV show since last week.  EEK!  When I opened my TiVo menu, I found several episodes of The Bachelor, some episodes of Intervention and I had a great surprise!  An episode of Gone Country.  YAHOO!  It’s back!

I settled in with a Hostess cupcake and a glass of wine (I know, I’m so posh) and prepared for the newseason of Gone Country.  WHAT???!!  It wasn’t Gone Country.  It was some sort of “History of Bon Jovi” special.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I am fond of Mr. Jovi - but I was really looking forward to watching Gone Country.  DAMN!  So, I found a repeat of the first episode in the series that should run tonight at 2am, but that’s not gonna help me now.

I went back to my TiVo menu to look for another great show so I could blog, blog, blog - blog, blog away.  I wasn’t in the mood for screaming blondes on The Bachelor.  Intervention makes me feel guilty as I drink a glass of wine.  And I have three episodes of “True Beauty”.  Not sure what it’s about and I wasn’t mentally prepared to start a new series tonight.  So - I settled for Grey’s Anatomy.  Not quite reality - but I plan to enjoy.

Til next time Reality friends!

Paula Says It’s More than IDOL Threats

Kim Reis

Idol in Louisville.  Not Louissss ville.  Looey-ville.

Some of these people who try out for Idol are just not wrapped very tight.  And part of me feels sad for them (while the other evil part of me laughs inside).  The first girl to sing on Weds night came up with bleach blonde hair and her mother says that she sings like an angel.  OH MY GOSH!!  Her family has got to be tone deaf.  How embarassing for that poor girl.  Sometimes I wonder if these people watch the show later and can actually hear what we hear.  I mean, some of these people look completely devastated.  How can they even THINK they sing good???

Then Mark walked in.  I’m not sure what he was thinking - but the guy sang partly as a yodeller and partly as, as, as - I’m not even sure I can think of a word to describe the noise that came from poor Mark’s throat.  He was an interesting guy for sure.  As he walked out, he told the judges to “Be Careful”.  OOPS!!  That definitely raised a red flag for all of the judges who took his comment as a threat.  Paula was really freaked out - you could see the look on her face.  When I was watching EXTRA the next day, they asked Mark if he was threatening the judges.  He said that “Be Careful” is just a term they use in the south when they say goodbye.  Who knows?

Speaking of “Be Careful” - it makes me think of a funny story.  We have some friends from Spain who come to visit every few years.  They know a little bit of English.  Last summer, they came to visit and we took them to NYC.  We visited all of the NYC hot spots and explained the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry.  While on the subway, our friend Emilio saw an angry looking guy sitting alone and noticed he was wearing a Yankees baseball cap.  Emilio put his hand in the look of a fake gun and went up to the guy and said, “Me Red Sock.  You Yankee.  Be careful!“ and laughed.  The mean man just looked up at him.  I wanted to DIE!!  And, of course Emilio had no idea what he was doing.  He thought he was making a joke.  But the guy wasn’t amused.  There were crowds of people in the walkway and my husband and I couldn’t get to Emilio.  We were saying, “Emilio!  No!  No!“ almost like a dog.  “Down Emilio!  Down!“  We finally got to him and explained to the guy that Emilio was European and had no idea what he was saying. UGH!!  “Be Careful” could have gotten us killed for heaven sake!!!

OK - back to Idol…

It makes me wonder sometimes when the judges make their comments.  Simon has told people they sing like a donkey, the look like a monkey and all sorts of mean spirited comments.  And, if the person isn’t wrapped tight - that could be dangerous for them.  I’m sure they have tons of security.

I wasn’t sure how the fourth judge Kara would work out - but it’s actually kind of cool.  She’s not that bad.  I wonder if Paula is afraid that she’ll be bumped out?

In either event - there were some horrid people and then, some unbelievable singers.  I think we’ll see some hot stuff in Hollywood week!

Joelle is a Wimp - and I Do Mean Biggest!

Kim Reis

So - Biggest Loser continues.  And everyone was sent home except 12 people.  They have to do it at home while the remaining players have to work hard to stay in the game.  If their half of “the couple” remains for 30 days, then the people at home get to come back to the ranch.  If their partner goes home, then the people at home won’t be allowed to come back.

Joelle is a freakin’ wimpo!!  (Is that a word?)  First - they had a challenge.  And, if they agreed to eat the fatty foods, they could win $25,000.  I have to admit, that would have been a tough one to decide.  25 G’s is a lot of moolah!  For sure.  Joelle almost took it - she had her foot on the line and was ready to cross over it.  When she didn’t agree to the money, I was like, “Whew!  Good for you.“

Then she started whining about the exercise.  “I can eat the right foods.  I just hate the gym. Waaah Waah Waaaaah!“  And here she is, whining like an idiot.  Then she talked down about gastric bypass.  Like gastric bypass is easy.  NOT!!!  As a gastric bypass patient - it is NOT easy.  Not one bit!  Yes, there’s a honeymoon period where the weight just falls off.  And then you have to workout, just like anyone else.

Joelle - COME ON!!  There are thousands of people who would DIE to have her spot in this game.  And her partner is at home doing it alone.  If Joelle goes home, her friend never gets to come back.  I’m upset with her selfishness.

Great season so far - BL!!!!  P.S. I just ate a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup while watching this show.  Bad, bad girl!  smile

NBC10 Free Weddng Giveaway - TODAY!

image

Our own little local piece of Reality TV takes place tonight!  Kate & Stephen are tying the knot!  For those of you who are totally confused - this year we are pre-taping the event and then we will air it on NBC10 and livestream it on turnto10.com on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 11am.  They must be a nervous and excited mess!  I know that I was nervous and excited on my wedding day.  Nevermind the fact that A Better Sound will have 5 cameras in their face.  I spoke to Christine from Planned to Perfection and she was as cool as a cucumber.  She has everything buttoned up.  Kate & Stephen’s blog is hysterical!  If you get a chance, click here to read it!  Well worth it!  They are very creative writers and I can almost feel their excitement through their online words.

I think they were heading to the Crowne Plaza today at 1:30pm to start getting ready.  Celebeautique will make sure they look beautiful.  There’s lots to do this afternoon like hair, makeup, nails, etc.  And, before you ask - YES!  Stephen will have his hair, makeup and nails done too!  HA!

I’ll head over later and I can’t wait to see Kate walk down the aisle.  I’ll have my camera with me and we’ll share lots of photos online tomorrow morning.  Our news cameras will get some behind-the-scenes video for you to see tonight on NBC10 News at 11pm.  And, make sure you set your TiVo for February 13th at 11am.  It will be worth the wait!!!

Idol Does It Again!

Kim Reis

Well - Idol is in full force and it has done it to me again.  Frog in the throat - tears in my eyes.  For all different reasons.  Happy for those who make it through.  Sad for those who had NO IDEA they sing as bad as they do.  I did see a funky edit on Tuesday night’s episode.  Person is singing.  Flash to four judges laughing and making faces.  In the shot, Paula is wearing a jacket.  Flash back to the person singing.  Flash back to judges - no jacket on Paula!!!!  HA!  Now, I know they have fun with editing when the people are trying out.  But I had no idea that the comments they make might NOT match the person they are talking to.  Hmmmm…  But I often feel bad for some of the people trying out when Randy is laughing out loud and they judges are making faces.  And, most times the people trying out are not firing on all cylinders.  So then I worry about the judges because these people could be whacky!  I hope they have tough bodyguards!

My 17-year-old son has been trying to “bond” with his girlfriend’s mother.  So - he has decided that he will talk to her about Idol since they both enjoy the show.  It was going well until Idol did the piece about the sexy young lady who tried out in a bikini.  His girlfriend’s mother asked him what he thought of that singer.  And, he said - “She had a great…..a great….a great….{gulp} - VOICE!“  HA!  Poor kid.  Even Idol sets him up to fail!

Well - Idol will surely keep me on the edge of my seat this season.  Looks like a good one!

Warm Up Those Vocal Chords!  Idol Starts Tonight!

Kim Reis

DO - RE - MI - FA - SO - LA - TI - DO!!!  Yes, that would be me, warming up my vocal chords because IDOL STARTS TONIGHT!!  YAHOO!!  I look forward to this time of year when Idol starts.  Although I’m excited and I do enjoy watching the “singers” (and I use that term loosely) that can’t REALLY sing, I hope they don’t kill it by putting it on every single night of the week.  That totally kills the show (and kills the available room in my TiVo too).  I’m ready to kick back and have some laughs this evening.  It should be a night to remember because Idol usually kicks it off with a bang.

I was talking to someone whose daughter tried out for American Idol.  She said it was a total mad house, they waited more than 12 hours and had a quick FA LA LA before being whisked away.  The weird people with all kinds of feathers were treated better.  That’s somewhat sad because this young girl can really sing.  Who knows what the preliminary judges look for?  It’s all a guess.

I wonder who this year’s shining star will be?  I wonder if we see some repeat “bad guys/gals”.  I wonder if Simon & Paula will get along.  Who needs to wonder??  It’s coming on soon!  Can’t wait!

Biggest Loser - Season Premiere

Kim Reis

The BIGGEST season of Biggest Loser has begun!!  This is going to be very interesting.  We have the oldest and the heaviest - all in one season.  I was on the edge of my seat when the old guy dropped.  At the beginning of the show, Bob said that viewers shouldn’t be sitting on the couch eating ice cream while watching the show.  HA!  I was eating a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.  Does that count?  I gulped and said - “Yeah, he’s right”.  I felt so guilty.  But I finished the piece of chocolate anyway.

I could not believe that they sent 9 people home already.  I thought that was so odd!  But, after doing the math - it doesn’t really shorten the season.  It just makes the season a bit more interesting as some of the couples are doing it from home.  And, if their “partner” in the game is still in the game in a few weeks, they get to come back to the ranch.

I wished the heaviest woman (Carla) stayed on the show.  She opted to let her friend stay.  Carla is a spit-fire and she really needs this show.  I’m not sure how well she’ll do on her own at home.  If her friend stays, then she’ll be back.  I hope.

I am already making opinions and I already dislike the green team (Laura & Tara, former plus sized models).  I don’t know what it is about them.  First impression is dislike.  Maybe I’ll like them better as the weeks go on.

I totally LOVE Daniel.  the 18 year old who is the heaviest person ever to be on the show.  He is so sweet and so cute.  I hope he stays long and does well.  He lost 30 lbs in the first week and I was so happy for him.  If he stays, ratings will be good because America will love this kid.

I really want my husband to do this show with my mother.  They dislike each other - A LOT.  I keep saying it to him and he keeps grunting at me.  HA!  I mean it.  It would be FABULOUS TV!  HA HA HA HA!  If he reads this, I’m gonna hear it when I get home.

My friend at work is doing the Biggest Loser program online.  In 4 days, she already lost 3 lbs. and she said the program makes her eat A LOT.  It’s not how much you eat.  It’s the kinds of foods you eat.  She comes to work with a shopping bag full of lunch and snacks.  She’s been making me laugh.  Sounds like it’s a pretty good program.  I don’t think I really need the program.  But I DEFINITELY need a personal trainer to MOVE MY BUTT.  I have to get moving!!  I would much rather watch TiVo with a glass of wine than get on the treadmill.  I have been saving my pennies so I can get a personal trainer for me, my husband and my daughter.  We need to get our cardio going!

Great season is upon us!  If you don’t watch it, check it out.  NBC10 Tuesdays at 8pm!

Reality TV 2009!

Kim Reis

Well - my TiVo is EMPTY!  That’s right - E-M-P-T-Y.  Can you believe it??  It’s ready and raring to go for the new season of reality TV which starts next week.  Can’t wait.  My husband totally teched me out this Christmas and bought me an extra hard drive for my TiVo.  That means I’ll hardly ever run out of room.  I think it holds something like 250 hours of TV.  Holy moly!  If I fill up that bad boy, I think my family will disown me.

So - the big week is ahead.  Here’s what you can expect to find in my Season Pass Manager on my TiVo:

I’ve been watching a show called Intervention on A&E.  This show is so random.  People addicted to drugs let cameras follow them around.  So sad and yet so sobering.

The Bachelor Season 13 starts 1/5 on ABC - I haven’t been a huge fan of this show, but I think I’ll check it out since I have extra hard drive space now.

BIGGEST LOSER starts 1/6 on NBC - YAHOO! - Promises to be a great season with one of the largest contestants ever.

Homeland Security USA airs on ABC starting on 1/6.  Looks interesting.

Howie Do It airs on NBC starting on 1/9 - looks similar to Candid Camera starring Howie Mandel.

American Idol Season 8 starts on 1/13 on FOX - as if the contestants didn’t get enough criticism, now that have four judges.

Sober House starts 1/15 on VH1 - this is a follow-up to the stars who appeared on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.  This is how they are doing now.  Should be interesting viewing.

Hell’s Kitchen Season 5 starts 1/29 on FOX - SHUT IT DOWN!  HA!  Can’t wait!

Survivor: Tocantis starts 2/12 on CBS - should be good.

Amazing Race 14 starts on 2/15 on CBS - make sure you set your TiVo to record longer so that the end doesn’t cut off like last season.  Due to sports, it always causes the show to run late and I always miss the end of each episode.

Celebrity Apprentice Season 2 - YAHOO!!  NBC is keeping the cast hush/hush, but I heard that Andrew Dice Clay, Joan & Melissa Rivers and Kloe Kardasian will be on the show.

Dancing with the Stars: Season 8 starts on 3/8 on ABC.  For me, this show is way overkill.  Too many nights and too many hours.  I think this needs to go down to 1 night a week.  I don’t know if I can stick it out for the entire season.

And, the really exciting things is that Big Love is coming back to HBO starting January 18th.  It’s not a reality TV show, but it’s definitely a show I love to watch!  The TiVo is ready to roll, the seasons have been added and life is GOOD!
