WARWICK, R.I.—The U.S. House approved a resolution from Rhode Island Rep. Jim Langevin honoring Navy SEALs and the American merchant marines they helped rescue from Somali pirates earlier this month.

Jangevin offered the resolution Wednesday to honor the crew of the Maersk Alabama, the ship hijacked on April 8 in the Indian Ocean.

It also recognizes the crews of Navy ships who aided in the rescue and the snipers who shot three pirates threatening to kill their American hostage, Maersk Capt. Richard Phillips, of Underhill, Vt.

The resolution was co-authored by Vermont Rep. Peter Welch. It passed Wednesday.
