PROVIDENCE—Three out of four candidates have qualified to run for state Rep. Elizabeth Dennigan’s former House seat, the secretary of state’s office said Thursday.

Dennigan, who represented East Providence and Pawtucket, resigned to challenge Congressman Jim Langevin.

The candidates who qualified were: Democrat Mary Duffy Messier, of Pawtucket, Republican Thomas Clupny, of East Providence, and Independent Paul Dinsmore, of East Providence.

The fourth person, Brian Cinq-Mars, of Pawtucket, failed to submit the proper documents by Tuesday’s deadline.

The election will be Dec. 29.
