BOSTON—State Sen. Scott Brown is no longer the only Republican in the race to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.
Fellow Republican Jack E. Robinson filed 11,120 certified signatures with the Secretary of State’s office Thursday, well over the 10,000 required. Robinson will join Brown on the Dec. 8 primary ballot.
Robinson has become something of a perennial candidate. He first ran against Kennedy in 2000 and lost. He lost a campaign for secretary of state in 2002 and the U.S. House in 2006.
The Duxbury resident is an attorney who founded his own cell phone company.
Kennedy died Aug. 25 of brain cancer.
Four Democrats are also in the race: Attorney General Martha Coakley, U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano, City Year co-founder Alan Khazei and Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca.
